Katarina Johnson-Thompson wins British indoor long-jump title

KATARINA JOHNSON-THOMPSON began her quest for 2019 world domination by winning the British indoor long-jump title yesterday. The heptathlete, 26, who will aim for her first world outdoor title in Doha in September, leapt 6.46metres to take gold in Birmingham.

Johnson-Thompson (pictured), second to Cindy Ofili in the 60m hurdles on Saturday, said: ‘I’m very happy to come away with the win.

‘I was a bit inconsistent on the board and I’ll have to work on that with my coach but other than that it’s been a decent weekend.’ Sophie McKinna landed a first national shot-put crown at the 13th attempt, 17.97m putting her third on the UK all-time indoor list.
