A MARATHON runner who found a lost puppy during a race carried him 19 miles to the finish… and all the way home.
Khemjira Klongsanun, 43, noticed other athletes dodging the bedraggled pooch seven miles into the run in Ratchaburi, western Thailand, on Sunday.
But the fitness fan (pictured) stopped to coax the trembling Thai Bangkaew dog over. Using her towel as a sun shield, she tucked him under her arm and ran the rest of the race.
‘It seemed to me that this little guy was lost. There were no houses, no other dogs, no people.
‘So, I picked up the puppy, if only to take him out of an unsafe environment,’ said Khemjira. ‘Running almost 20 miles carrying a dog was truly a challenge. It was twice as tiring as a normal marathon but I did it as he is adorable.’
After appeals to find the pup’s owners, the shop worker said she will keep little ‘Chombueng’ — named after the marathon — with her two other dogs. ‘It might take a while for him to adapt. But Chombueng is a very smart boy,’ she said.
