JAMES CORDEN called president Donald Trump a ‘lunatic’ who had ‘hijacked’ the US as he reacted to an unprecedented day in America.
After the world watched aghast as supporters of Trump stormed the US Capitol in Washington DC yesterday, James and his fellow late night TV hosts all opened their shows with sombre monologues slamming the unrest.
Corden, filming his The Late Late Show from his garage due to spiralling Covid-19 cases in Los Angeles, described it as a ‘crazy, sad day, a day that will go down as a dark one in the long history of America’.
London-born James said he grew up an ‘outsider’ who admired the US, and that those like him watching around the world would have been shocked by what they had seen.
He said the US had been ‘hijacked’ by a ‘lunatic and his crazy army’ for the past four years, but that would soon end ‘because in two weeks on those same steps, where that mob fought and pushed past police, Joe Biden will be sworn in as president of the United States’.
