It’s no porkie, a million think bacon’s from cows

MORE than 1.3million of us think bacon comes from cows — and even more reckon veal is sourced from deer, a study reveals.

‘Clueless’ Britons have no idea where everyday food comes from, with one in ten believing tofu is a type of mushroom.

The survey of over 2,000 adults found many were unable to name fruit and veg that’s available at different seasons. One in five can’t put together a traditional Sunday roast, while half struggle to cook a millennial favourite such as smashed avocado on toast.

Chef Andre Dupin of meal kit company HelloFresh, which carried out the study, said: ‘It’s surprising to see that popular foods, as well as things Brits have always held dear, are difficult for people to cook from scratch and they struggle with knowing where it’s from.’
