A SCHOOLGIRL had a legendary holiday — finding a 4ft sword in the lake where King Arthur’s aide is said to have thrown Excalibur.

Matilda Jones, seven, uncovered it while paddling in Dozmary Pool, Bodmin Moor, Cornwall.

Folklore: King Arthur returned sword to lake

Dad Paul, 51, of Doncaster, told her and sister Lois, four, about the legend of King Arthur moments before the find. He thought it was old fencing, until Matilda pulled it out of the water. But he’s not convinced the find is the stuff of legend.

‘It’s probably an old film prop,’ he said.
