I didn’t deceive parliament on Russia, says Seb Coe

LORD COE has denied misleading a parliamentary committee about what he knew of Russian doping and corruption within athletics and denied the sport is in tatters.

The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) president was speaking yesterday following a meeting of its council members in Birmingham.

It came 24 hours after a report by the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee strongly criticised evidence he gave MPs in 2015.

‘We’ve read the report and absorbed it and I did not mislead the committee,’ Coe said. Asked if it had damaged his reputation, he replied: ‘No. I cannot account for answers that have been attached to different questions.’

He added: ‘There’s a lot more to be done but this sport is not in tatters — it’s strong.’
