BARCELONA’S trade show Mobile World Congress may have been cancelled due to coronavirus fears but Huawei and Sony still have new models to show off.
A year after unveiling its first foldable attempt, the Mate X, Huawei has revealed the Mate Xs. The new version has the same design but has an improved display, better hinge, quad cams and 5G. However, the absence of Google services because of the US government blacklisting Huawei over security concerns continues to be the company’s Achilles’ heel. Priced at £2,299, it goes on sale next month.
Elsewhere, Sony has announced the flagship sequel to its Xperia 1, the Xperia 1 II, which borrows photo and film smarts from Sony’s Alpha cameras, brings back the headphone jack and supports 5G. There’s no price or release date as of yet.
