THEY have studied under the shadow of a tragedy for more than a year — but A-level students at a London academy near Grenfell Tower had a reason to smile again yesterday.

Five of the 72 people killed in the fire in June last year had attended Kensington Aldridge Academy. Abdullahi Ali, 18, who will be one of the first people from the school to go to Oxford after getting three As, told the Evening Standard he came to collect his results ‘so this place had happy memories’.

Daniel Glinka, 18, who got three As and an A*, said there was ‘so much lost potential’, adding: ‘We are realising ours for those who didn’t get that chance.’
