HARRY REDKNAPP’s wife Sandra says she is finding his boost in fame difficult to deal with, after he won I’m A Celebrity in December.
Harry, 71, who has had a long career as a football manager, has seen a surge in his popularity with a new audience since being crowned king of the jungle.
He told ITV’s Good Morning Britain he enjoyed being the centre of attention when out and about, with fans wanting selfies with him.
He said: ‘I went shopping, I popped into Marks & Spencer, everyone I see … every lady is coming up to me saying, “Harry, what you shopping for, a jam roly poly?” It’s great.’
Sandra, who had visited Harry in the jungle camp (pictured top), admitted: ‘I’ve found it quite hard, being in the limelight more’, adding: ‘But I’ve been really proud of him.’
The couple have done a number of TV interviews since Harry’s victory and he embarks on a one-man theatre tour later this year.
Sandra, his wife of 51 years, said she found it ‘strange’ when he opened up about his feelings for her, on I’m A Celebrity, because ‘he’s not really open like that, to the public’.
She added: ‘I think, probably being a football manager, you have to sort of keep everything in, and you can’t let people know what type of person you are, you’ve got to be strong.’
Harry, dad to retired footballer Jamie, also confessed he has never cooked for Sandra: ‘I can’t cook. I can do a boiled egg.’
