Hammer and gone! Lone man fights off moped gang attack

Sleazy riders: Moped gang targets bike

DRAMATIC video footage reveals the moment a brave man saw off a knife-wielding moped gang as they tried to steal his motorbike.

A video shows the man squaring up to the muggers in Battersea, London, at the weekend.

The four men had threatened him with a knife and an angle grinder, according to the @UKTheft Twitter account, which posted the clip.

But it seems the moped riders were not the only ones with tools at the ready. The unidentified man stood his ground and swung a large hammer.

Bystanders can be heard screaming as the stand-off appeared to take a violent turn — with a knife-wielding attacker storming toward the lone man. As the thieves start to retreat, the man shouts ‘go away’ and holds his hammer in the air. The gang then speed off, leaving him in the middle of the road.

The footage emerged amid an ‘epidemic’ of violent crime launched by gangs from mopeds, who police say commit up to 50,000 crimes a year in London alone.

On Saturday, a 41-year-old fashion executive told how she broke her leg fighting off eight moped attackers who targeted her as she walked her dog.
