Gwyneth Paltrow sued for $3m for ‘hit and run’ ski accident

GWYNETH PALTROW is being sued by a man who claims she broke his ribs and left him with concussion by skiing into him at a Utah mountain resort.

Retired optometrist Terry Sanderson, 72, told a news conference in Salt Lake City he heard a ‘hysterical scream’ then was struck between his shoulder blades on a beginners’ run at Deer Valley Resort in February 2016.

He said he was thrown forward and lost control of his body before losing consciousness. Craig Ramon, an acquaintance who saw the accident, said the actress had hit him squarely in the back.

A spokeswoman for Paltrow stated: ‘This lawsuit is without merit and we expect to be vindicated.’ Her lawyers have stated that Paltrow was downhill at the time of the crash, meaning she had the right of way.

Mr Sanderson claims in the lawsuit that the 46-year-old actress — famous for her roles in Shakespeare In Love and Iron Man, and for her Goop lifestyle brand — left him injured on the mountain and broke a county skier’s code by not sending for help.

Mr Sanderson, who is claiming $3.1million (£2.4million), said Paltrow was ‘unkind’ not to have stayed and apologised.

He denied suing her as she is rich and famous, saying: ‘I would like my truth to be told.’

The instructor skiing with Paltrow filed a false report saying she was not to blame, he added.

Deer Valley Resort, which is also being sued, did not comment.
