FRENCH president Emmanuel Macron was ‘speechless with rage’ over the UK’s post-Brexit fishing agreement with the EU, Michael Gove told MPs.
The environment secretary said the arrangement had caused ‘anger’ in Paris.
Mr Macron insisted he would demand access to UK waters for French fishermen as the price of a future trade deal and the UK quitting the backstop.
But Mr Gove told the Commons in a comedy French accent that Mr Macron was ‘wrong’ — to the amusement of Speaker John Bercow who said his French was ‘stunning’.
Mr Gove added: ‘The truth is that as an independent coastal state we will be able to decide who comes into our waters and on what terms.’
