THE sovereignty of Gibraltar is ‘not on the table’, the MEP for the British territory said.
Ashley Fox insisted: ‘The chief minister has said that Gibraltar will bear any price before it gives up its British sovereignty.’
In last summer’s Brexit referendum, 95.9 per cent of Gibraltar voters wanted to remain in the European Union.
After the victory for the leavers, Spain’s then foreign secretary José Manuel García Margallo claimed the ‘Spanish flag on the Rock is much closer’.
He called for joint sovereignty of the territory, ceded to Britain more than 300 years ago.
But Mr Fox said: ‘I know that sovereignty is not on the table. That is not a subject for discussion.’
