Ghost-hunter and sceptic wife still on spooking terms

Don’t look now: Julia and scared ghost-hunter husband Richard at home PICTURE: CATERS

OBSESSED Richard Felix has spent £180,000 on ghost hunting in 20 years — to the annoyance of his long-suffering sceptical wife, who claims: ‘It’s like living with Scooby-Doo.’

Richard — who quit the army to become a paranormal investigator — and Julia live in a house with views of an eerie medieval moat by a cemetery.

They once rented a haunted jail but he admits he’s only actually seen one ghost and that he’s been terrified of them since childhood.

‘I’m desperate to see them but I’m also quite afraid of them,’ he said. ‘I want to look out on to the cemetery at night but I ask Julia to check first.’

Julia insists: ‘At least once a day, I have to tell him to stop talking about ghosts. He’s been on TV shows about them but I can’t watch. I’m into facts and reality — not Scooby-Doo tales.

‘I’ve heard his childhood story about a green ghost he was afraid of hundreds of times. I’ve had enough. I want to tell him to shush.’

But she added: ‘I do love how committed he is to his job, even if I think it’s nonsense. I know he believes in it and at least it keeps it interesting.’

Richard, 71, who appeared in 120 episodes of TV show Most Haunted, has released two new books, What is a Ghost? and The People’s Ghost Stories.
