German chancellor Anglea Merkel in quarantine after doctor infected

GERMAN leader Angela Merkel has gone into quarantine after a doctor who gave her an injection tested positive for coronavirus.

Ms Merkel (pictured) had been given the precautionary vaccine against pneumococcal infection on Friday.

Spokesman Steffen Seibert said she was told about the doctor’s test result after holding a news conference yesterday to announce new measures to curb the spread of the virus.

In a statement, Mr Seibert added Ms Merkel, 65, would have ‘regular tests’ in the coming days and continue with her work from home for the time being.

The leader had earlier expressed her gratitude to Germans who were following the rules on social distancing.
