TARA PALMER-TOMKINSON was in a ‘dark place’ before she died, a friend of the socialite has claimed.
The former ‘It girl’ was found dead by a cleaner at her £1.6million London flat on Wednesday three months after she revealed she had a brain tumour.
Paying tribute to his friend on ITV’s This Morning yesterday, Ivan Massow said she had also suffered from the after-effects of alcohol and drug abuse.
‘It was hard for her to stay off the drinking, and there was this tumour on top of everything,’ the 49-year-old financier said.
Asked if Ms Palmer-Tomkinson, 45, had returned to a ‘dark place’, he replied: ‘I know that every time I didn’t hear from her, that is where she was.’
Show host Holly Willoughby, 35, also revealed she gave her a diamond Chanel ring when they first met.
‘I noticed this bling and said, “Your ring is beautiful”. She said, “Oh, this is just a bit of toot from Chanel”, dropped it in my champagne glass and went, “It’s yours”. I said, “I can’t take that!” She replied, “If you don’t, I’ll throw it across the restaurant.”’
Ms Willoughby added: ‘She was so funny and incredibly kind.’
Miss Palmer-Tomkinson’s sister, author Santa Montefiore, 47, last night posted a photograph of her on Twitter, and wrote: ‘My darling sister. I miss you,’ alongside a broken heart emoji.
