Five things about… Emma Blackery

THE 26-year-old’s new single, Agenda, and forthcoming album, are inspired by a social media bust-up she had last year: ‘I had some issues with people who I thought were my friends but who turned on me publically. I was devastated. I decided to write an album documenting that journey… there are some shady b*****s out there.’

She supported Busted in 2016 and it didn’t all go smoothly: ‘I’d never done an arena tour before. The first gig was at Wembley Arena in front of 10,000 people. Twenty seconds in and the backing track cut out. I was absolutely terrified. I’ve never suffered from stage fright since because I know things could be worse.’

Her first gig was in Southend with a pop-punk group: ‘I was 18, it was in a room over a pub and the only people in the audience were the band’s girlfriends. We were trying to be Paramore. We were called The Good Night Dance. I thought I was an amazing singer — I was not.’

She’s a best-selling author as well as a YouTube vlogger: ‘My book Feelgood 101 came out last year. It was based on a video series I did giving advice to teenagers if they felt bulled or depressed. It’s my story about my parents separating, being bullied at school, first boyfriend, things like that.’

She loves a bit of WWE: ‘I got into WWE after I saw a video on YouTube mashing wrestlers up with a song I liked. My favourite wrestler is AJ Styles. Maybe I could write an entrance theme for him.’
