Fish has had its chips as owners turn restaurant into vegan diner

A CHIPPY is being turned into a vegan restaurant after its owners decided trade was having a negative impact on fish stocks.

A poster in the window of The Fish And The Chip in Leicester said they were ‘not comfortable’ with the impact their business was having on the environment.

They said an ‘eye-opening’ fishing trip had changed their thinking about what they were doing.

The poster read: ‘There’s not plenty more fish in the sea!

‘We saw the impact pollution is having on the oceans and fish stocks and we are not comfortable running a restaurant that has an impact on our environment. As a result we have decided to close the restaurant.’

The owners, who went meat-free last year and removed burgers and battered sausages from the menu, said they are re-launching the business and will be selling gluten-free and plant-based food instead of traditional fare.

The notice ended: ‘Until then, thank you to all our loyal customers that have supported us.’
