A SPURNED lover arranged for a besotted ex-partner to pour acid over her boyfriend as he slept, a court heard yesterday.
Victim Daniel Rotariu, who woke screaming in pain, is now blind and scarred for life after nearly a pint of sulphuric acid was splashed on his head, face and chest, jurors heard.
The attack was allegedly carried out by Mark Cummings. He was said to have been used ‘like a puppet on a string’ by Mr Rotariu’s girlfriend Katie Leong, who he was still ‘obsessed’ with after a romance between them ended in 2015.
Prosecutor Andrew Easteal said Leong, 51, was ‘fixated’ with acid attacks and flew into a rage when Mr Rotariu, 31, refused to let her spend the night in his bed at their Leicester home after a row last July.
Afterwards, Leong ‘did her best to present herself as the loving, distraught and hysterical girlfriend’, Mr Easteal added, but was able to switch her hysteria ‘on and off’.
Mr Rotariu was a qualified press setter but will never work again. He is disfigured and endures terrible pain, with his life still ‘in the balance’, Mr Easteal said.
Cummings, 46, and Leong, both of Leicester, deny attempted murder and intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm. The trial at the city’s crown court (pictured) continues.
