EU brands Dominic Raab ‘turnip’ over Brexit strategy

EU CHIEFS labelled Dominic Raab ‘The Turnip’ when the ex-Brexit secretary ‘backed down’ on a threat to tear up the Withdrawal Agreement, it has been claimed.

The nickname — a play on ‘raap’, the Dutch for ‘turnip’ — came after Mr Raab allegedly ‘chickened out’ when confronted by chief EU negotiator Michel Barnier over the Irish backstop, The Telegraph reports.

Dismissing the claims, Mr Raab’s spokesman said he would expect Brussels to say that. ‘It was Dominic who pushed them the hardest,’ he added.
