MILLIONS of Britons showed their gratitude to the heroes of the NHS last night by staging another nationwide burst of applause.

The five-minute #ClapForOurCarers tribute was staged for a second successive Thursday at 8pm, in a show of support for all the healthcare workers battling coronavirus.

Boris Johnson, who was diagnosed with the virus last week, joined in from No.10 and the BBC and ITV paused broadcasting on their flagship channels for five minutes from 8pm.

Ellie Orton, of NHS Charities Together, said: ‘Joining the wonderful wave of support for the NHS to say a massive thank-you together is already making such a difference. We have raised nearly £17million for our Covid-19 Urgent Appeal.’
