EasyJet accused of having a laid-back attitude to safety

Don’t lean back: The broken easyJet seat

EASYJET has been accused of poor safety after a passenger was pictured on a flight sitting in a seat without a back-rest.

Passenger Matthew Harris posted the snap from a crowded Luton Airport to Geneva flight yesterday.

‘EasyJet beats Ryanair to have back-less seats,’ he tweeted. ‘How can this be allowed?’

The budget airline prompted accusations of a cover-up when a press officer replied: ‘Hi Matthew, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

‘Before we can investigate this, could I ask you to remove the photograph and then DM [direct mail] us more info regarding this, so we can best assist you.’

‘Absolutely not,’ replied Mr Harris, ‘This is a real photo of a plane currently descending to Geneva.’

He said the woman who was allocated the seat was moved before the plane took off.

EasyJet said: ‘The seats were inoperative and awaiting repair. No passengers were permitted to sit in that seat and they will be repaired tomorrow.’
