AT LEAST 56 people were killed and more than 200 injured during a stampede at the funeral procession of Iranian general Qasem Soleimani yesterday.
The crush happened as thousands took to the streets in the tyrant’s hometown of Kerman. ‘Unfortunately, as a result of the stampede, some of our compatriots have been injured and some have been killed,’ said Pirhossein Koulivand, head of Iran’s emergency medical services.
The deaths came after more than 1million people packed the streets of Tehran for a procession on Monday.
Soleimani’s burial was delayed, with no new time given, because of concerns about the size of the crowds.
He will be laid to rest between the graves of Enayatollah Talebizadeh and Mohammad Elahi, two Revolutionary Guard comrades killed in the 1980s Iran-Iraq war.
