PANIC broke out when a delivery of bread to Italian restaurant Bombetta was mistaken for an explosive device.
A passer-by spotted the word ‘Bomb’ written on the package left outside the door at 6am and called 999.
Six police officers hurried to the scene to find loaves in a brown paper bag, with half of the shop’s name scrawled in marker pen on the top.
Jose Alonso, manager of the restaurant in Snaresbrook, east London, said: ‘A bakery employee had shortened our name and someone reported it. Police turned up in a van with flashing lights looking for a suspicious package.’
He added: ‘I suppose it’s the times we live in.’
