DONALD TRUMP is set to come to the UK next year -but his state visit has been downgraded and he will not be a guest of the Queen.
The US president has been told that, although his invitation from Theresa May stands, it will only be as a stripped-down ‘working visit’, Foreign Office sources said.
It follows threats of mass protests over Mr Trump receiving VIP treatment.
Dates have not been confirmed but he is likely to stay at the residence of the US ambassador, rather than at Buckingham Palace, as part of a tour of European countries.
London mayor Sadiq Khan — who has clashed with Mr Trump on Twitter — said he ‘would not object’ to a working visit.
