DONALD TRUMP made a surprise Thanksgiving visit to Afghanistan last night to serve turkey to US troops.
The president, who sat and chatted with service personnel at Bagram Airbase, said: ‘There is nowhere that I’d rather celebrate this Thanksgiving than right here with the toughest, strongest, best and bravest warriors on the face of the Earth.’
He also announced he had restarted peace talks with the Taliban and insisted the extremist group wanted to make a deal after coming under heavy fire from the US in recent months.
‘We’re meeting with them, and we’re saying it has to be a ceasefire. They do want to do a ceasefire, I believe… and we’ll see what happens,’ he added.
Mr Trump also held talks with Afghan president Ashraf Ghani.
