Donald Trump comes out ‘kung flu’ fighting

DONALD TRUMP has again referred to coronavirus as ‘kung flu’ after the White House rejected complaints it was racist.

The US president made his comments at an election rally in front of 3,000 supporters at a ‘megachurch’ in Phoenix, Arizona.

‘There’s never been anything where they have so many names. I could give you 19 or 20 names for that right?’ Mr Trump said to cheers. ‘It’s got all different names. Wuhan. Wuhan is catching on.

‘Wear a mask’: Dr Anthony Fauci and, main picture, Mr Trump

‘Coronavirus, right? Kung flu, yeah? I could give you many, many names. But here’s the story, we are going to be stronger than ever, and it’s going to be soon.’ His comments came as infectious diseases chief Dr Anthony Fauci told congress that the next few weeks are critical. ‘Plan A, don’t go in a crowd. Plan B, if you do, make sure you wear a mask,’ he said — wearing a mask, unlike Mr Trump.

The rise in US infections in the past few days has come close to the previous peak in April. Arizona has reported a single-day record of 3,600 new infections.
