Doctor, 68, who came out of retirement is killed by coronavirus

‘Living legend’: Dr Alfa Saadu was hailed for his passion and care

A PHYSICIAN who came out of retirement to treat patients has died of coronavirus.

Dr Alfa Saadu, former medical director of Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex, passed away on Tuesday, his family said.

The 68-year-old, who retired in 2017 but returned to help at Queen Victoria Memorial Hospital in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, had been ill with the virus for two weeks but ‘couldn’t fight any more’, his son Dani said.

He said: ‘He was a very passionate man, who cared about saving people. As soon as you spoke to him about medicine his face would light up.’

In an online post, he added: ‘The NHS were amazing and did everything they could. My dad was a living legend… Up until he got sick, he was still working part-time saving people.’
