IT WAS the unlikely family reunion the nation has been waiting for — Danny Dyer was introduced to the Prince of Wales last night.
The soap star discovered he is a direct descendant of Edward III on a 2016 episode of the BBC’s Who Do You Think You Are?
Meeting Charles at the London Palladium before the Prince’s Trust Awards, Dyer, 41, said: ‘I’m in EastEnders. Just wanted to let you know we’re related as well. King Edward III is my grandfather — but I won’t go into it. No he is, on my life.’ Charles replied: ‘A very long way away.’
Later, presenting an award, the actor joked that he and the prince were having a ‘family reunion’, adding: ‘When your cousin Charlie makes the call, you’ve got to help your family out, you know what I mean?’ With Charles sitting nearby, Dyer joked that his comment on their relationship went over the prince’s head, saying it went ‘straight up his nut’.
As for his own take on events, Charles said: ‘I’ve discovered a long-lost relation in Daniel Dyer. He told me he was descended from Edward III, which was interesting. I must do some research.’
