A DAD whose marathons were cancelled because of coronavirus has run the full 26.2 miles in his back garden.
James Page, 36, did 873 laps in just under five hours rather than waste the training he did for an ultramarathon and the London event.
‘It was great. My children were cheering me on from the trampoline,’ said the pipe fitter of Sidcup, south-east London. As a final touch, his family made him a toilet roll finish line.
‘I smashed through it then chucked it in the bin!’ added Mr Page, who raised £3,000 for Children with Cancer UK.
■ A DETERMINED runner has finished a half marathon — on his 10ft London balcony. Sam Hustler was due to take part in the London Landmarks Half Marathon before the 13-mile race was axed and entrants advised to run solo. But Sam has been self-isolating with his girlfriend — so decided to complete the challenge on his balcony in South Woodford, doing 7,000 laps in three hours. ‘It was devastating when it was cancelled,’ said the 27-year-old, who is raising cash for Haven House Children’s Hospice. ‘It’s such a great cause that I wanted to do it any way I could.’
