Trump blasts rivals’ anti-vaccine rhetoric

DONALD TRUMP has accused his Democrat rivals of ‘disparaging’ a Covid-19 vaccine he claims could be ready before the election purely for political gain. After Joe Biden’s Democrat running mate Kamala Harris said ‘there’s very little that we can trust that… comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth’, the president dismissed her comments as ‘reckless anti-vaccine rhetoric’. He added: ‘It’s so dangerous for our country, what they say, but the vaccine will be very safe and very effective.’ The coronavirus death toll in the US stands at nearly 190,000.

EasyJet cutting flights over Greek quarantine

EASYJET is cutting flights in the wake of quarantine restrictions for seven Greek islands. ‘Customer confidence to make travel plans has been negatively affected,’ the airline said. From 4am today travellers arriving in England from Lesbos, Tinos, Serifos, Mykonos, Crete, Santorini or Zante must self-isolate for 14 days. EasyJet chief executive Johan Lundgren said customers are ‘as frustrated as we are’ by the UK’s ‘unpredictable’ travel rules. He is among industry leaders pushing for passengers arriving in the UK to be given virus tests so quarantine can be shortened.

Navy aircraft carrier further delayed by outbreak

CORONAVIRUS cases among crew on the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth have further delayed its departure from Portsmouth. The £3billion warship was to leave port for training exercises on Monday, until ‘fewer than ten’ of the 1,000 crew tested positive. It is understood the commanding officer further postponed yesterday’s planned departure as some test results had not been returned. The ship is listed to sail today.

FOOTAGE has been issued of ‘Covidiot’ football fans wanted for questioning after fighting broke out at an illegal promotion party. Hundreds of Coventry City supporters flouted lockdown rules to gather in Broadgate in the city centre to celebrate the club being crowned League One champions. Police said two men brandished a knife before ‘very serious’ violence erupted on June 9. They have identified 11 people involved and have now released CCTV images of 15 more suspects. Det Insp Amar Patel, of West Midlands Police, said: ‘This has been a painstaking investigation.’
