Rick Stein to shut two of his restaurants for good

TWO of TV chef Rick Stein’s restaurants will not reopen after lockdown, it has been announced. The permanent closure of his eateries in Marlborough, Wiltshire, and Porthleven, Cornwall, was revealed in Facebook posts. The Rick Stein Group’s other 12 sites, including its Padstow flagship, are unaffected. Earlier this month, the chef warned of ‘repercussions’.

Under-30s ‘struggling with lockdown effects’

PEOPLE aged under 30 are more likely to feel lonely or bored during the pandemic, a study by the Office for National Statistics finds. Some 76 per cent who said their wellbeing had been affected reported being bored and 51 per cent felt lonely. This compared with 45 per cent of 30- to 59-year-olds feeling bored, and 27 per cent in the same group feeling lonely.

High street gets a spring in its step with 51% boost

FOOTFALL on high streets in England rose 51 per cent after non-essential retailers, such as clothes shops and department stores, reopened last week, figures show. However, the number of shoppers remained at a historic low, reports Springboard. Across all UK retail destinations, footfall rose 45 per cent, despite Wales and Scotland keeping non-essential stores shut.
