Contempt threat over legal advice on Brexit

LABOUR has warned Theresa May she faces a ‘historic constitutional row’ unless the government releases its full legal advice on the Brexit deal.

The government has resisted a Commons vote requiring it to reveal Attorney General Geoffrey Cox’s advice. It was reported he warned the UK could be tied to the EU customs union ‘indefinitely’ via the Northern Ireland backstop.

Labour may sign a letter today with other parties, including the DUP, to ask speaker John Bercow to allow a motion that the government has held Parliament in contempt.
