Church hall ban for ‘non-Christian’ yoga

A YOGA teacher was barred from using a church hall because the philosophy behind her exercise classes was ‘not compatible with Christian beliefs’.

Atsuko Kato (pictured centre), 54, told of her shock after she tried to hire the venue in Pilton, north Devon.

She said: ‘They asked me what I wanted it for and I said to teach yoga. They claimed yoga was not suitable for a church.’

The vicar, the Rev Nigel Dilkes, said he could not allow Ms Kato’s classes because of yoga’s ‘spiritual connection’. He suggested locals ‘do Pilates instead’.
