A MOTHER was caught on camera leaving her newborn baby boy in a bin before riding away on her moped.
The 29-year-old, named only as Waraporn, gave birth to her fifth child, in her flat in Samut Prakan, near Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday.
Fearing she and her husband, a driver who earns £250 a month, would not be able to support their family, she rode her moped to the other side of the capital, with her seven-year-old child standing in the footwell.
CCTV caught her dropping a bag behind an industrial bin before looking to ‘check nobody was following’ her and riding away. Her baby, which still had his umbilical cord attached, was found by refuse collectors four hours later.
Police traced Waraporn the next day and took her to hospital as she was suffering with cramps and bleeding.
She said: ‘I didn’t mean to kill him. I left him there and hoped someone would find him and take care of him. I was worried somebody would see me so I left quickly. I regret what I did.’
She has been charged with abandoning a child and social workers will assess whether the boy should be in her custody.
