A CARE home worker caught on a hidden camera sexually abusing a vulnerable dementia patient has been jailed for two years.

Dylan Birkett, 21, admitted attacking her on Christmas Day 2019 at the St George’s Nursing Home in Barrow, Lancashire.

The victim, who cannot be named, had been showing signs of distress for a month so her husband set up a secret camera, Preston crown court heard.

He was horrified to watch footage showing Birkett roughly brushing her hair then squeezing her breasts and placing her hand on his crotch.

He said: ‘What he has put her through has shaken our family to its core. Due to her dementia, my wife finds it hard to make sentences. Words such as “the pain is awful” and “I could not stop him” and “he will kill me if I tell” play over and over in my mind. The worst aspect is she thought the family knew and we didn’t care.’
