CORONAVIRUS hero Captain Sir Tom Moore has been presented with the very first Veterans Railcard which offers discounted travel to all those who have served in the armed forces.

Sir Tom, who served in World War II, said it was ‘wonderful’ to accept the card at his Bedfordshire home from transport secretary Grant Shapps.

About 830,000 veterans who are not eligible for existing railcards will be able to get up to a third off all rail fares from November 5, as well as discounted travel for adult companions and children. The card is available at an introductory price of £21.

Sir Tom raised £33million for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday in April.
