Cameron: I saw Dad thanks to caring Sarkozy

‘Compassion’: The former leaders PICTURE: GETTY

DAVID CAMERON has told of Nicolas Sarkozy’s ‘extraordinary gestures’ which helped him see his father for a last time before he died.

In his memoirs, the former PM says his French counterpart — with whom he had a fraught relationship — called him after his father Ian had a stroke in the south of France.

‘Doctors were worried it was potentially fatal,’ Mr Cameron writes. He said Mr Sarkozy told him: ‘I will get you to your father.’ He said: ‘I will never forget that act of compassion.’
