Brits prefer pets to parents-in-law at Christmas

A SHOW of hands, please, for those of you out there who can’t wait to spend Christmas with your in-laws. Thought so. A survey this week revealed that a third of Britons preferred their pets to their other half’s relatives. And it gets worse.

We’re twice as likely to choose to spend Christmas with our pets rather than with our spouse’s family — indeed, 20 per cent of us prefer to have Christmas with just our animals. The average person spends £50 on Christmas presents for their furry friend — probably a lot more than gets splashed on Bob and Jean.

More than 2,000 Britons were surveyed by animal charity Support Adoption for Pets, which is raising money to provide meals for 2.4 million pets in rescue centres this Christmas.
