British woman jailed for hitting Bali airport officer

Kicking and screaming: Taqaddas lashed out during her arrest yesterday PICTURE: YOUTUBE

A BRITISH woman has been sentenced to six months’ jail in Bali for slapping an immigration officer after missing her flight due to an expired visa.

And yesterday medical researcher Auj-e Taqaddas was filmed kicking and screaming as officers arrested her in a shopping mall because she had failed to appear in court.

Video showing the 43-year-old swearing and hitting an officer at the Indonesian island’s international airport went viral last July.

Taqaddas (below) had been asked to pay a £3,100 fine for overstaying her visa, which had run out five months earlier.

During her trial which began in December, Taqaddas denied violent behaviour against a government official and said the video was edited.

After she was sentenced in Denpasar district court, Taqaddas said she would appeal. She said she had been tortured by police three times including during her arrest yesterday.

As two officials led her from court, she shouted: ‘Indonesia is a criminal country. Indonesian law is corrupt. Indonesian judges are corrupt. No lawyer was provided. Indonesian immigration is corrupt. This is a sham court who was only listening to the dirty prosecutor who did not bring me to the court for six months.’
