A BRITISH tourist has been identified after his severed hand with a ring on his wedding finger was found inside the stomach of a tiger shark.
The 44-year-old man, who has not been named at his family’s request, was attacked as he snorkelled off a beach on Réunion island in the Indian Ocean.
His wife raised the alarm when he failed to return to shore on Saturday. The 10ft shark — along with four others — was later caught four miles from where the tourist was last seen.
There have been 11 fatal shark attacks off Réunion since 2011, and many of its beaches are closed to swimmers.
The victim had been snorkelling at Hermitage Beach — one of the safest on the island as a coral reef usually provides protection from sharks.
