Be alarmed, be very alarmed: Metro keeps a watchful eye on homes with the best security features

BUYING a new home can be super-exciting — and it’s easy to get carried away with fabulous decor, the swish new bathroom suite and the state-of-the-art kitchen. But those are the fun bits. Just as important is how secure your home is.

Research by Smart Home Week has revealed that smart home technology is used every day by 57 per cent of us, with indoor app-controlled cameras and smart alarms making up the bulk of the anti-burglary defences.

When choosing an apartment, it’s advisable to have a 24-hour concierge service, video entry phones and CCTV in public areas. ‘Security is a key factor for purchasers when weighing up the pros and cons of living at a specific development,’ says Brian De’ath, sales director at Southbank Place (pictured above).

‘One of the big draws for buyers at Belvedere Gardens, at Southbank Place, is the fact that there’s a 24-hour concierge manning the front desk, as well as lifts that only open at residential floors with an owner’s key card. They also like the fact the public space is managed by a round-the-clock team that will ensure it is well maintained, clean and, most importantly, secure.’

Here are some of the best new homes for security savvy buyers on the market right now…
