DOG owners across the UK brought their furry friends into their workplaces today to celebrate Bring Your Dog To Work Day.

The event, which was launched in this country in 2014 by dog grooming website Hownd but inspired by a similar annual day in the USA which began in 1999, welcomes man’s four-legged companions into the workplace in the name of charity.

All proceeds raised on Hownd’s website go to dog rescue charity All Dogs Matter, which re-homes hundreds of dogs in the UK every year.

Rachel McDermott, who brought her cockapoo Betty into her office in Cambridge today, said: ‘I bring my dog into work almost every day anyway, but I think it’s great that others are being encouraged to get involved too.’

Another posted an adorable snap of her bespectacled Labrador Maximillian, armed with a pad of paper and pen — ready to assist his owner Christina in some PA duties.

Further education consultant Christina said: ‘Working at home has the added bonus that nearly every day is #takeyourdogtoworkday.’

Studies show that bringing a dog with you into the workplace has a range of benefits including boosting employee morale and colleague cooperation.

Hownd issued guidelines for HR departments to make sure that the day goes smoothly, including making sure they get written consent and that their dogs are kept on a leash.
