Back off, says Paul Hollywood, as finalist baker trolled online

Bad day: Hermine (centre) left tent

PAUL HOLLYWOOD has leapt to the defence of Great British Bake Off finalist Laura Adlington, calling online abuse of her ‘disgusting’.

The 31-year-old digital manager (right in picture) narrowly avoided elimination from the Channel 4 show on Tuesday — with fan favourite Hermine leaving instead.

The French patisserie expert, who had been star baker for two weeks, struggled in hot conditions.

Hollywood, who judges with Prue Leith, wrote on Instagram: ‘Each week stands on its own!! It never matters what any baker has done in previous weeks.’ Adlington, from Kent, replied: ‘Thank you Paul, that really means a lot to me.’ Rahul Mandal, 2018 winner, added that he hoped people would ‘try to be kinder’.
