ASOS is expanding in the US by opening a £30million warehouse. The online UK fashion retailer said the plant, near Atlanta, would ‘enhance’ its £179million US sales, most of which are sent from the UK at present.
Standard Life profits rise
STANDARD Life saw its pre-tax profits rise six per cent, despite investors taking £3.7billion from its funds. It made £362million in six months as an £11billion merger with Aberdeen Asset Management nears completion.
NEW LOOK plunged into the red as like-for-like sales fell 7.5 per cent in the quarter to June 24. The fashion retailer made a £15.2million loss after tax, with underlying operating profits down 60 per cent. It predicted market conditions would remain difficult into next year.
Pet chain purring over sales
PETS At Home has seen sales rise five per cent in the first quarter to £256.5million on the back of solid growth in merchandise and veterinary services. The pet shop chain said it is on track to open ten superstores this year.
999 fail leads to £900k fine
PHONE firm KCOM has been fined £900,000 after Storm Eva stopped 74 emergency calls getting through in December 2015. Regulator Ofcom found the flooding of one exchange in York put Hull’s 999 service out of action for four hours. It exposed a ‘serious weakness’, the watchdog said.
