Apprentice stars: Katie Hopkins ‘took wrong path’

Back on TV: Lord Sugar and Littner

LORD SUGAR and his Apprentice sidekicks say controversial former contestant Katie Hopkins took ‘the wrong path but she’s not stupid’.

The entrepreneur, 72, who will mark his 15th year on the show when it returns tonight on BBC1, gave his view on the right-wing commentator who appeared on the show in 2007.

Lord Sugar said ‘there is only one Katie Hopkins, I suppose’ after she forged a career as a columnist and media personality.

‘There is not many that have gone on to get herself a reputation like that,’ he said. Hopkins, 44, has made headlines with controversial comments and shown support for far-right figure Tommy Robinson.

Lord Sugar’s adviser Claude Littner recalled: ‘She wasn’t without talent. I remember interviewing her all those years ago. Unfortunately she has taken the wrong path but she’s not stupid.’

Meanwhile, Lord Sugar has drawn up retirement plans. ‘The decision lies with the BBC, whether they want to continue to do it. But, if they did, I think I would max out at 20 years — a 20-year ceremony,’ he revealed.
