Anti-vaccine Novak Djokovic tests positive after tournament

THE world’s No.1 tennis player Novak Djokovic tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday after taking part in a tournament he organised.

The Serb, who is opposed to vaccinations, is the fourth player to be infected after the matches in Belgrade, Serbia, and Zadar, Croatia. Viktor Troicki, Grigor Dimitrov and Borna Coric have also tested positive.

Djokovic, 33, returned to Belgrade after the third stage of the Adria Tour was cancelled. ‘The moment we arrived we went to be tested,’ he said. ‘My result is positive, just as (wife) Jelena’s, while the results of our children are negative.’

Djokovic was criticised for putting on the tour during the pandemic — using no social distancing measures and partying with other players.

He apologised and said he will self-isolate for 14 days, adding: ‘Everything we did in the past month, we did with a pure heart and sincere intentions.’

He admitted in April his stance on vaccinations might harm his return to competitive tennis. ‘I wouldn’t want to be forced to take a vaccine to travel,’ he said.
