ANDY MURRAY produced an astonishing performance on his return to grand-slam tennis last night, fighting back from two sets down to secure an epic five-set triumph in the first round of the US Open in New York.

The Scot, who had not played singles in a major since the 2019 Australian Open after his career was nearly ended by injury, saved a match point in the fourth set against Yoshihito Nishioka before going on to win 4-6, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
