A BRITON who paid for a £100-a-night Airbnb rental in Amsterdam turned up to find… a roadside shipping container.
Football fan Ben Speller wanted a one-night stay in the Dutch city for Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League match against Ajax last Wednesday.
After seeing the listing on the housesharing platform for a ‘clean home in Amsterdam with private bathroom’, he booked up expecting a nice room.
But when he got there he discovered the ‘home’ was three mattresses in a container — with a portaloo that opened up on to the street.
‘We drove past the container three times in the taxi because we couldn’t believe that could be it,’ Ben (above) said. ‘I checked the listing again and the host had changed it to container home.’ He booked a £230 hotel instead.
Ben posted about his experience on Twitter, where one user joked: ‘Well at least it’s self container’d.’
Airbnb has removed the listing and refunded Ben. The container has since been towed away.
