£300k Bill Wyman guitar strikes a record note

A GUITAR once owned by former Rolling Stones rocker Bill Wyman has fetched a record-breaking £300,000 at auction.

The 1969 Fender Mustang Bass, with a competition orange finish, was used by Wyman (pictured) for Stones concerts and recordings in 1969 and 1970.

More than 1,000 items from the 83-year-old musician’s archive — including musical instruments, stage-worn ensembles and awards — went under the hammer at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills, California. A left-handed Hofner presented to Paul McCartney in 1964, which sold for £160,000 in 2013, held the previous record for a bass guitar, said the auctioneers.
